Festive Coquette
Common name: Festive Coquette
Scientific name: Lophornis chalybeus
Clades: Lesbiini - Coquettes
The Festive Coquette is an endemic hummingbird of Brazil that measures about 9 centimeters (3.5 inches) long, including its long, thin beak. Both males and females have similar sizes and weights, weighing around 3.5 grams (0.12 ounces) and 3.2 grams (0.11 ounces).
There is a white band around their rump. Adult males have iridescent green headdresses, flowing beards ending in white spots, and a glittering forehead, face, and chest. In contrast to the female Frilled Coquette, the female and young male lack these features and have a white throat with a dark smudge in the center; they resemble the female Frilled Coquette but lack buff on the face and throat. In some areas, this bird visits feeders regularly and feeds on various flowers.
